Kilimanjaro: Day 6

June 8th, Monday!

I attempted to get up early, but I wasn't in my sleeping bag last night until 11pm.

It took me awhile to reorganize everything in my bag, filter and zap my water with my steripen, try to wash up as best I could, and get out of the tent for breakfast.

I gave tips to a few of the porters that I wouldn't see again, and everyone sang the Kilimanjaro song to me!

The walk out to Mweka Gate was through the cloud forest. It was cool and beautiful the whole way, with lots of little flowers, giant trees, and even a few Columbus monkeys.
Finally to the gate, with a bladder the size of a watermelon, I signed the last book and got my certificate for reaching the top!
For some reason, they put 2:00am as my accent time, but who cares, I made it, and I have pictures (and rock solid legs) to prove it.

We drove back to Moshi, and after an expensive call to the states to clear up the hold on my bank account due to "suspicious overseas spending", Godfrey and his dad dropped me off at the hotel for a long overdue shower.

He came back to get me around 4:00pm for a walk around the town. Godfrey took lots of pictures for me. Some are out of focus and probably need some adjusting, but I'm so glad to have these pictures because it was practically impossible to take pictures of the markets in Nairobi. Godfrey is great at taking pictures discretely from his side or from waist level which explains the off kilter and focus issues:

We stopped at an Internet cafe, the post office to send one last postcard, and dinner at a little restaurant where I had a well earned Kilimanjaro beer!
